The little mallow (Malva neglecta) is a perennial plant of the mallow family (Malvaceae). Little mallow is found in Europe and western Asia. The kind in the western and northern Netherlands noble fairly common, but elsewhere the plant is rare.
The plant is 10-40 cm high with stems mostly lying. Small mallow blooms from June to September with lilac, purple or sometimes whitish flowers. Petals not longer than 1 cm and two to three times as long as sepals.
Each flower is a fruit with split approximately fifteen smooth, but the hairy back, 2.5 mm long, formed part fruit.
Small mallow occurs on nitrogen rich soils worked on farms and along roadsides.
Little mallow is a host plant for caterpillars of Pyrgus communis, Strymon melinus, Annabella Vanessa, Vanessa cardui, Helicoverpa zea and Heliothis virescens.
